So why not play Tau. Vanilla marines appear to fill the gaps nicely in a Tau list, having superior troops and a close combat presence. So here is an initial go at it.

So a few thoughts. Most of my firepower is mobile, but my troops are fairly slow. I am worried that I don't have enough scoring units as is. I have considered removing the bike squad to pick up a second unit of tactical marines.
Right now I am hoping to use the crisis suits to pick on any light vehicles with the broadsides concentrating on heavy vehicles. The terminators are there to ensure some sort of counter assault element. The bikes will act as a harassment element intended to help screen assault units and hit hammer units with the plasma. The tactical squad is meant to give a midfield presence. They will likely combat squad. I went with multi-melta because of their intended placement, and will likely be moving forward at the beginning of the game. If I run into fliers, well most of my army is twin-linked and honestly that is the best I can hope for without access to skyfire. The librarian is still giving me problems mainly because I don't know what powers to use. The basic marine powers of null zone and machine curse seem nice, since null zone is still null zone, and machine curse automatically strips a hull point if it hits. But I am tempted by the book powers, especially those in the telepathy chart seem helpful to a tau force. Thoughts?
